A Step-by-Step Guide to Create a Family Vision Board

Updated: Dec 30, 2025

For a Christian working mother or father who wants to lead their family with faith, hope and purpose

Step 1: Set the Intention (Start with God)

Before anything else, pause.

  • Say a short prayer such as:

“Lord, guide our thoughts and plans. Help us see our family through Your eyes and align our dreams with Your will. Amen.”

  • Remind yourself: this isn’t about perfection or comparison; it’s about direction and unity.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)

Step 2: Choose a Simple Time & Place

Keep it realistic.

  • Pick a time when the family is usually together (Sunday afternoon, early evening or a day off).

  • Sit at the kitchen table, living-room floor or wherever feels comfortable.

  • Light a candle or play gentle worship music if that helps create calm.

Even 30–45 minutes is enough.

Step 3: Gather What You Already Have

No pressure to spend money.

You can use:

  • Old magazines, leaflets, supermarket catalogues

  • Paper, cardboard or the back of a cereal box

  • Scissors, glue, pens, crayons

  • Printed Bible verses (or handwritten ones)

If you have nothing-draw pictures or write words. That’s just as powerful.

Step 4: Talk About What Matters as a Family

Ask simple, age-appropriate questions:

  • “What are we thankful for?”

  • “What kind of family do we want to be?”

  • “How can we love each other better?”

  • “What do we want God to help us grow in?”

For younger children, keep it simple:

  • “What makes you feel safe?”

  • “What do you want more of at home or the family?”

Listen without correcting—this builds trust.

Step 5: Choose Faith-Led Focus Areas

You might include:

Faith

Family Life

  • Peace at home

  • Respect

  • Forgiveness

  • Togetherness

Work & Provision

  • God’s provision

  • Stability

  • Hard work

  • Gratitude

  • Personal Development

Health & Wellbeing

  • Exercise

  • Rest

  • Joy

  • Emotional safety

  • Strength

“As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

Step 6: Create the Vision Board Together

Now the fun part.

  • Let each person add:

    • Pictures

    • Words

    • Drawings

    • Bible verses

  • There’s no right or wrong.

  • Encourage effort, not neatness.

You might say:

“This board shows where we’re going with God; not where we already are.”

Step 7: Add a Family Prayer or Declaration

At the bottom or centre, write something like:

  • “With God’s help, our home is a place of love, peace, and growth.”

  • Or a simple prayer in your own words.

Let the children help choose or decorate it.

Step 8: Display It Where Life Happens

Place it somewhere visible:

  • Living room

  • Kitchen wall

  • Hallway

Not hidden away-this is a daily reminder of hope.

Step 9: Revisit and Pray Over It Regularly

Once a week or month:

  • Say a short prayer together

  • Ask: “What’s improving?” “What’s still hard?”

  • Update it if needed

This teaches children:

  • Faith is active

  • Growth takes time

  • God walks with us through real life

Final Encouragement for Mum and Dad

You don’t need:

  • A perfect home

  • Expensive gifts

  • Endless time

You are already leading by example, praying and showing up.

“Let us not grow weary in doing good…” (Galatians 6:9)
