It’s not everything we hear, see or do that give us understanding but the ones that add value to us; is understanding.
A few days ago, one of the sunny days in May, I was asked to join a team to go and research on a community project and how it has been carried out by volunteers. I felt reluctant because I had judged the team; thinking they did not look bubbling enough; I wanted something new like hands on, gardening, helping elderly people. I was persuaded by a friend to go, so I finally went for the visit.
On getting there, it was a total different experience; the team was a friendly one, I learnt new things and made new friends who shared the same values with me. The experience was amazing and I started reflecting, on the things I would have missed if I had not gone.
While thinking of the visit; I imagined how it would be to walk in someone else’s shoes. How would it be for one moment be in someone else’s skin and see life through that person’s eyes, and feel what that person feels? We miss out a lot by being so quick to judge others, disdaining things or criticising things.
We can’t really come to fulfilment of ourself until we understand ourselves. No wonder, the great king David in the Holy Bible prayed this prayer; “Give me understanding that I may live” in Psalms 119:144.
The book of Proverbs 4:7 says; “wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting; get understanding”.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give us understanding; so we do not miss out in all the goodness of life in Jesus name, Amen.
